Handmade Gift Exchange {the gift I received}

Hey everybody. So, first I have to say that this post is kind of special because I am posting from my phone! What????!!! I know, cool, right? (for those of you who have been doing this for-like-ever, don't laugh at me I'm new to the whole smartphone thing).

The next order of business aka purpose of this post is to tell you, not only did I ship my "exchange" gift 2 days before the deadline, but I got mine in the mail today.

It's so cute!  Can't wait till the next one.

Future Project Friday

Hey, today's the first edition of Future Project Friday!  And it's a simple little one.

Today it's the ribbon/pearl bracelet on the right side (with the blue box around it).

** I can't get the link to the one pinned on my board to work, so here is another**

See you next Friday with another!

Doily Earrings

As promised, doily earrings!  Aren't they fun?!  And they're super light, so great for those of you who may have sensitive ears and want to wear big earrings, but don't like heavy ones.

Make some of your own and let me know how they turn out!

I found my pattern here on Ravelry.

Coming Soon...

Yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby to get some velcro... needless to say I didn't just get velcro.  I never do.  I always get more than I came for, however I only spent less than $9.  The velcro is for a cute little project that I will soon post- you're going to love it.

Another thing I got while I was there was some crochet thread.  I decided I want to make some doilies.  Why?  Well, why not?  I've never done it, so I figured I'd give it a try.

But then I thought, what am I going to do with doilies?

Then I found these:

From: Oh My Good Knits!  She has some super cute patterns and this looks simple enough (maybe).

From: Ravelry  Super cute little doily earrings!  I think I'll make these first.

From: Ravelry (this is a different link from the above)  These ones look a little more difficult than the doily ones, so we'll see if I can accomplish these.

Anyway, I'll show the end result soon.

And I'll have a tutorial soon!

A New Start

Hey everyone!  I wanted to tell everyone about my new Etsy store.  There's a small preview of my items over on the left.  But, it's all changed from what I had in my previous store.  Even a new name!  "Add a Little Color" is my new store.  My step-sister, Jamie, even got me a new logo for the store, which I also used for my Facebook page.

I'd love for you to head over and check it out!

Also, it's "before and after week" here on Sugar and Stitches!

DIY Necklace Display

I made this (well, partly) a while ago when I needed something to display some necklaces I made for a jewelry party my friend Tennessa had.  Basically, then I put the hooks on the inside of the frame.  But then when we moved into our new place in California I decided to put it up in my bathroom, however I had to fix it.

First I had to dig out my white paint from the numerous boxes I still hadn't unpacked.

These are the hooks I put on when I used it the first time.

I painted the outside edge white, so that it would look like I bought a brand-new canvas for the project.  Very thrifty of me :)

See?  Looks like new.

I used some Command picture-hanging strips to hang it at first then it fell down (with all the jewelry on it) so I had to just put a screw in the middle at the top.

All my long necklaces (except the ones that I have made) fit nicely.  Then I made one for Nan and she bought some ribbon to go about the canvas on the part where it's stapled to the frame.  Hers looks pretty cute.

Anyway, there's my recycled canvas necklace display.

Rolled Rose Necklace Tutorial

The other day I found this rolled rose tutorial, so I decided to make some of my own.  I just wanted to see if I could do it.  And now I am OBSESSED.  I will probably be making a lot of them.

After making about ten rolled fabric roses, I sewed some onto a plain t-shirt for my sister then I decided to make a necklace with some of them.

I bought the chain and the metal loops at Michael's.

The chain comes in one big loop, so you have to cut either end.  And it's enough to make two necklaces.

Here's the two pieces (thanks capt. obvious lol)

Here are the three roses for the first necklace.

I lined them up first how I wanted them to look on the necklace then I sewed them together at the back just on the edge.

Here are all three sewn together.

Then sew a loop on the end of the two end flowers.  I don't know why I used black on an ivory-colored flower.  I'm sure it looks ghetto, but oh well.

Then put a metal loop through each of the sewn loops.

Hook the chain through the metal loop.  Then close the loop.

Tada!  There it is.  You'll have to measure how long you want the chain to be then add a clasp to the end as well.  I didn't get a clasp because a friend of mine makes jewelry for a living and I want to go through her clasps to see what she has so I don't have to buy one.  I know I'm cheap.  I'll add a post about adding that when I get a clasp.

I had Jessica model it for me.  Without a clasp I just kind of hung it on her.

I made this one too.  I can't tell you which one I like better.  I love the colors in both.  I love pink too, so I'm a little partial to this one.

My sister bought this shirt for $5, so she asked if I could spruce it up a little.  I made her some rolled roses and sewed them on.  It looks so CUTE!

She said she can't wait to wear it.  I wasn't quite sure how the colors would work but I think they look good.
